As the owner of a 15” 5+ year-old (2009) Macbook Pro, I had begun to experience compatibility issues with the OS I was running (Snow Leopard) and my web experience since my browsers – Firefox, Chrome, etc. kept updating to maintain security and stability. Additionally Apple was no longer supporting Snow Leopard so there were compatibility issues with the desktop version of Google Drive and other applications. I have a tendency to run 2 or 3 browsers simultaneously and often leave 10+ tabs open in each browser. This habit was causing me to run a relatively up-to-date (2014-15) web experience on an OS that hadn’t been updated since 2011 or hadn’t been supported by Apple since 2013. As a result I was also experiencing frequent kernel panics.
It was time to upgrade my OS, but the age of my computer had me worried that the hardware might struggle a bit with the new software.
After a trip to the Apple store I was advised to upgrade my memory (4GB to 8GB) and my hard drive (Hard Disk Drive to a Solid State Drive) not only to prolong the life of my computer, but to support the demands of the latest apps and browsers, etc. The additional memory would also make a huge difference.
The only AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) listed by Apple in Albuquerque was Baillio’s – and although they repair a wide-range of electronics and appliances, I just didn’t feel comfortable with them not being specifically computer service or repair specialists.
Luckily for me, after a quick Google search for a local specialist I found Gigateks!

Not only was Eric very helpful and knowledgeable, he was also perfectly fine with me ordering the components I wanted (recommended by the Apple Store), and then installing them for me. Additionally, when a component we needed failed to arrive in time, Eric came to the rescue at the last minute and ordered the part for me with 1-day shipping!
Not only are Eric and Gigateks reasonably priced – they provide great professional service, and very quick turnaround. Eric’s communication is fantastic over the phone or in person in his office. His workmanship is superb (I asked him to try not to strip any of the screws on my laptop and he returned my computer to me just as I gave it to him). He is honest, very helpful, and accommodating!
Eric had me back on my computer in 24 hours. With a new hard drive, upgraded memory and OS, and all my data transferred, the transition has been amazingly smooth. It feels like I got a solid overhaul and everything on my computer is exactly where I left it!
